Electrical Transformer Configurations

Electrical transformers are used to convert voltage from one level to another.  They can have features such as electrical isolation, power distribution, and control and instrumentation applications.  An Electrical transformer relies on the principle of magnetic induction between coils to convert voltage and/or current levels.  Electrical transformers can be configured as either a single phase primary configuration or a three phase configuration. Three phase configuration choices include delta-delta, delta-wye, wye-delta or a wye-wye. To understand more about how these connections and configurations work click on our Three Phase Transformer site.  Primary frequencies of incoming voltage signal available for electrical transformers are 50 Hz, 60 Hz, and 400 Hz.  60 Hz is common in the US while 50 Hz is common for European power.  400 Hz are most used in aerospace applications.  The maximum primary voltage rating is another important parameter to consider.  An electrical transformer should be provided with more than one primary winding if it is to be used for several nominal voltages.  

Applications of Electrical Transformers

An Electrical transformer is in just about everything that requires power.
